While puppy biting is a normal part of their development, it's important that you manage the behavior appropriately. You need to be proactive, educational, patient, persistent, and consistent to avoid the behavior that can become an issue when the dog gets older.

The Five Fs -Survival Response In Pet-Dogs

When dogs are stressed, just like us, they release noradrenaline, adrenaline, and cortisol. The result is the famed fight-or-flight response. In reality, there are five responses you might see in Pet-Dogs, —fight, flight, freeze flirt, or favor. This responses are crucial to the dog's survival.

FIGHT. This is active stress or active fear state. The dog may become aggressive to make the threat go away in a situation.

FLIGHT. Dogs may try to flee the situation. looking for escape routes. You’ll see signs such as sniffing on the ground, avoidance, hiding or a lower body posture, tail between the legs, panting or hiding behind objects or person.

FREEZE. Pets may stay motionless while whatever is happening around them plays out, but what’s going on inside is a different story.

FLIRT. This is a insecure state—the dog isn’t sure how to react to the situation. You’ll see lip licking, hackles, head low, ears back, panting, wale eyes, paw raising, floor sniffing,play bow and other displacement behaviors.

FAVOR: In this state, the dog seeks help from someone he trusts, in exchange he will be obedient to be guided to safety.

Five Steps To Holistic Dog-Parenting

ESTABLISH TRUST AND BE SUPPORTIVE

Dogs like things to be predictable. If you are predictable trustworthy, you have a great chance to become your Dog's Authority, and he will ask you for help if needed. Offer in abundance in what dogs need to thrive.

ESTABLISH AND IMPROVE SECURE ATTACHMENT

Dogs are likely to follow people who shown to be capable of solving things better than themself. That will make you an authority in this relationship. Then you can include a peer relationship or become your dog's best friend.

CREATE RULES AND LIMITATIONS

Dogs need to learn your code of conduct. Dogs love to learn how to become a functional part of your family. It's essential to teach them they do's and don'ts, to feel safe and supportive.

EXPLAIN THE TASKS

Dogs need to know what is expected.

They learn from observation, rewarding, and consequences. Some dogs learn faster than others, and some will think more than others. Repetition, consistency, and right timing is a good recipe for a balanced and happy dog.

EDUCATION AND GENERALIZATION

Every time dogs learn something new, their brain's neural connections change, forming and strengthening pathways that allow them to interact with and learn to troubleshoot from our continually evolving environment. Dogs become predictable and safe.

My First Eight Weeks At Home With My Puppy

5 REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD TITER YOUR DOG

Titter=safety  Over-vaccination=unsafe
 

Find a Participating Veterinarian in your state
 

Dr. Robb will do the titer following these steps:

1. Have your Veterinarian or a Vet Tech draw 2-3 cc's of whole blood and spin in a red-top serum separator tube for ten minutes.
2. Leave the blood in the serum separator tube. 
3. Once you have the blood sample home, complete the contact form below.
4. Once payment has been made, Dr. Robb will be notified and submit your information.
5. You will receive two emails: a pre-paid UPS label, and a submission form.
6. Place the submission form and the sample in a bubble wrap envelope or box, apply the label to the package, and ship directly to the lab.  
7. No refrigeration is required.
8. Drop your sample off in a UPS pick-up box or take it to the nearest UPS store for shipping. 
9. It will take approximately two weeks after shipping to get the results.
10. The results will be forwarded to your email address.
